09/12/2014: My previous attempt at renaming the directory to foil the spambots did not work. I'm trying now to change the login information for the SQL database. There may be a little bit of downtime but it shouldn't take long.
09/11/2014: I've been having problems with spambots preventing legit users from being able to sign up correctly. I've tried changing the directory from bbs to forums. Hopefully that will stop them and I can remove the retrictions stopping real users from signing up. Sorry if some of your bookmarks have become broken. They can be fixed by replacing bbs with forums in the properties.
This section is for role playing specific anime characters. Please only choose one character and try to stick with them. Try not to pick a character who has already been picked.

You're not limited to Tenchi Muyo either. You can choose characters from other anime or even make up your own character who you can define traits of. Try not to make your character all powerful. And you cannot directly make another character do something which they will not. How would you like it if somebody took control of your character.

"God's in his heaven and all is right with the world"
- Nerv
Tenchi Muyo, No Need for a Homepage
Edited by: Linden Ryuujin at: 6/30/03 6:35 pm

The Rules

OK, here are the rules, they're pretty standard, just respect other peoples character and you should do fine. Below are the rules followed by more detailed explanations to make sure there is no confusion. So, read the rules and have fun ^_^

1) The creators of an RP topic can only run one RP thread at a time

2) No two RP topics should contain identical subject matter, there should be variation within topics.

3) RP topic creators should define the settings and themes for their individual RP in their first post within the topic.

4) After creating a topic, the section moderator will determine whether the topic is acceptable or not, and will give the final nod as to whether the RP can go forward.

5) RP topic creators can choose who joins their RP and if multiple people whish to play a single character the creator will choose who gets that character.

6) The first post should also include a list of the names of players and their characters.

7) Any discrepancies or conflicts will be mediated/resolved by the section moderator or the global mods. The creator of a topic is responsible for reporting any problems in their thread, they decide what is a problem for their RP.

8) Participants within RP topics are not allowed to control characters assigned to another poster without that poster's consent, especially when in combat.

9) Potential RP topics are not restricted to anime. This forum is an open one for any type of RP subject.

10) If you say something out of character, please begin it with the prefix "OOC:"

More Detail

This is just a more detailed explanation of some of the rules above, to give examples and make sure there is no confusion

The creators of individual RP (role play, role playing) topic threads can maintain only ONE RP thread at a time, and no two RP topics should contain identical subject matter. Thus, a topic starter cannot have several different RP topics going at once, which would lead to clutter and possibly discourage other members from potentially creating their own topic threads. Also, with regard to the second point, there should be variation within topics. Thus if someone created an RP on Kenshin, that should be the ONLY Kenshin RP going on within the forum UNLESS another Kenshin topic by another topic creator takes a totally different slant on the subject matter. For example, if the first topic on Kenshin specifically deals with Kenshin in a certain setting, while the second one deals with Kenshin in a specific setting very different from the other one...that MAY be allowable, depending upon whether or not the section moderator finds this acceptable.

RP topic creators should define the settings and themes for their individual RP in their FIRST post within the topic. Thus, each individual topic maker will have the power to determine the parameters of their individual RP (they will set up how the RP will be played). After creating a topic, the section moderator will determine whether the topic (subject matter) is acceptable or not, and will give the final nod as to whether the RP can go forward. If it is acceptable, the topic will then be listed as an active RP within the sticky topic listing of active RP threads, and the rpg (role playing game) can begin in earnest.

RP topic creators will have the ability to assign who gets what character within their RP. Thus, if a person joins in and wants a certain character, the topic creator can determine whether or not that character will go to the new player. This should keep the chances of multiple players having the same character to a minimum (unless of course, multiple players with the same character are acceptable: for example, if they were clones or something). Additionally, the FIRST post (see above rule), which details the parameters of the RP, should also include a list of the names of players and which character they have been assigned (and this list should be updated as new players join in).

Any discrepancies or conflicts will be mediated/resolved by the section moderator or the global mods (if needed). However, the section moderator--not the global mods--will have chief responsibilty for the maintenance of the forum. Thus, if conflicts arise...for example, if there is an unruly poster who isn't following the guidelines laid down by the topic creator for playing within the RP, that person's actions should be reported to the section moderator by the topic creator, and depending on the circumstances and possible remedies suggested by the topic creator, appropriate measures will be undertaken by the section moderator to resolve the situation.

Participants within RP topics are not allowed to control characters assigned to another poster without that poster's (the one whom the character was assigned) consent.

Rules for combat and other interaction

These are more detailed rules for interaction of characters. (Thanks to Naveed Zandrite for this explanation)

There is to be no autoing. This goes for fights and other sort of interactions that go on in the game during serious moments.

An auto is an action performed by a character that includes another character and does not give them the chance to choose how to act. This is sometimes also referred to as "moding". Autoing and Moding are the same.

Example:

*SillyBilly grabs BillyBob by the collar and slams him into the next wall.*

To do this, SillyBilly must have gotten a hold of BillyBob earlier. She cannot simply "grab him" out of thin air and perform her action. If you managed to grab a hold of BillyBob earlier, this action above is valid.

---

*SillyBilly grabs BillyBob by the collar and slams him into the next wall. The young man's teeth fly in every direction*

Auto. You describe how your action has a certain effect on BillyBob. Don't do this. You may slam BillyBob into the wall, but you canNOT know how he will react to it.

*SillyBilly grabs at BillyBob's collar in an attempt to slam him into the next wall, hoping the action will help the young man's teeth learn to fly*

Not an auto. You perform a valid action and add what you HOPE will happen. This you can do - it is not an auto if you describe something that you think will happen, or if you describe an effect that you think should happen.

---

Example for a valid RP:

(Note SillyBilly already has a valid hold on BillyBob's shoulder)
*SillyBilly grabs at BillyBob's collar, changing her hold from his shoulders to his neck. She puts her weight into a forward in order to slam him into the wall behind him*

BillyBob reacts with:

*BillyBob is slammed into the wall, breath leaving him for a moment. He quickly regains a stance and aims to break SillyBilly's hold on him by grabbing her wrists and pulling on them, trying to get them off his neck*

SillyBilly finishes with

*SillyBilly's grip on BillyBob's collar slips as he grabs her wrists. She takes a step back and pulls, her right leg coming up to slam her knee into his crotch/stomach (whatever body part is within reasonable reach of that knee)

---

When someone is unconscious or in a position where they cannot defend themselves anymore, they are at your mercy. SillyBilly, knocked out cold, cannot re-act to JoeBo stringing her to a tree. BillyBob, restrained in a nice wrapping of chains from neck to ankles, cannot prevent someone from kicking him or picking him up off the ground.

---

When you enter a fight, it is generally considered against common RP netiquette to immediately "act". Give the other players time to acknowledge your character's presence first before you attack them, unless you happen to use a gun and shoot from a distance. It is very unlikely that JoeSmitty or
JoBo, fighting, would not notice it if someone joined the fun.
