What would you change about Sakuya?

Because, I have my own personal project I'm going to work on involved with her... you'll see

Me?

1. Make Tenchi interested in her from the beginning, and have to win her over somehow. She just fell in love with him too easy.

2. Give her a little more depth. Less of a character thaty ou ahve to go out of your way not to insult and more of a fun-lovin' girl.

3. Successfully befriend Ayeka, a-la Yugi.

oo thats tough.

its hard for me to comprehend because my opinion is obviously strongly biased to ryokos favour.
not to mention really subjective.

however i like to think i back up my argument with allot of objective evidence, but anyway.

1. depth was one of the things sakuya did not have i would have defiantly given her more purpose
other than bein some souless clone of yugi

2, visually, sakuya was very plain IMO. she didnt have any real style or flair, which is what i like in a character.

3. her personality was very hallow and weak which fairly put was a result of the nature of her creation but even so
nothing admirable about her cognitive framework at all.

4. like you said, she fell for him too easily (because that was the purpose of her creation). her reason for "loving"
tenchi was not really her own, it was constructed by yugi and her underlings.

all in all i dont think a relationship could've worked out with them at all, inorder for it to work she would basicly
have to be changed completely IMO.

What I want to do is make it harder for her to fall in love; Tenchi have to chase her a little. I'd keep her appearance the same, because I thought she had some kind of appeal in her normal-ness; she was the calm in Tenchi's chaotic world. I liked that she was a generally nice girl, but she needs more variety and to be a little less clingy. More adventurous.

and she was a nice person.

but her skin was so pale

yuk in IMO, give her a bit of tan.

I think one way you could add a lot of depth is to tell the story from her point of view. Then all her feelings can easily be shown to prove her motives. We all already know the characters of Tenchi and the gang so we can much more easily infer their feelings without being explicitly told them ^^ It seems to me a lot of the Sakuya hate is because she didn't seem well written/a fully fleshed out character. Writing it from her perspective means you can show what she's up to when she isn't around Tenchi. How much of the plot she knows etc. It's always going to be difficult. Make sure to add some flaws as she her "perfection" was another of the issues people had liking her.

I'd toy with doing that a few times, but not for the whole story. I really don't think it would fit if that was all I did. Thanks for the idea Linden!

You could tell ONE chapter from her perspective were it divided into chapters, and it could work. I just am a little... weired out by writing as a girl.

Also, yes, give her a life besides Tenchi. She was friends with those two girls... why not have her go off and have fun with them?

you could change it and make it so that yugi actually kidnapped this girl
from some planet (near jurai or whatever) or somehow link her to one of the characters.
say..... mihoshi knew her as a child, but one day she mysteriously disappeared.

one of the characters in show recognise her and the mystery starts to unravel.

Well... I don't know about this "kidnap" story, but I'm definitely gonna try a different angle. Thanks for your suggestions!

No, I disagree with the whole "she previously knew this person or that person" thing. Nor should you give her any backstory or memories other than saying she remembers waking up somewhere in the middle of town at, like, a beach, or a fountain, or something, and then just walking long and ending up at the school. She seemingly has amnesia, and the only reason she even remembers her name is because she woke up with some kind of an ID card or something with her name and a picture of her face on it. And most importantly… correct the simple mistake of Tenchi being so damn love-struck about Sakuya that he can't even be cognitive of the concept that maybe she doesn't remember her family or anything but her name and her time with him because she has amnesia!

Other than that, I say use her little entourage to flesh out her persona. Have them depicted as close friends of hers who saw this confused girl and just decided out of the goodness of their hearts to befriend her, help her around, and teach her how to live and let love life like they do. Make her more spunky and fun-loving, and have her spend some of the time that she doesn't spend with Tenchi hanging out with them. Have her be attracted to him, as well as vice versa, but not quite fall in love with him until later on when her "amnesia" starts to surface and he shows he cares enough about her to ask and to wanna help, proving indeed that he is a genuine gentleman that probably really loves her. In addition, make Yugi be quicker to exprress increasing confusion over Sakuya's actions.

That's in addition to having her successfully befriend somebody from the house - I'm not gonna specifically say Ayeka. You can go with her if you want, but there is that jealous love for Tenchi there that you're gonna have to work around somehow to make it fit. Anyway, all this will make Sakuya seem more real, as well as give her a much better chance of sticking around at the end, than by her feeding Tenchi the John Cena treatment like she does in the actual series.

So, whaddya think o' that, bkev?
