With ezboard still losing data with each "restore" I cannot over-emphasize that the porting of the character forums needs to be done quickly.

I fear that ezboard will reach our server and suddenly massive amounts of threads will have "this post is missing and cannot be restored" messages in them.

The character forums (as you know) are the heart of this board for several people (I know...I lost a friendship over this). If they are lost...the new board could lose those members as well.

I can't overemphasize this...

Posts are STILL being lost as ezboard continues to "resort" threads...

Read the manual about how to bring over the old character forums. I haven't tried it yet but I think I get the idea as to how to do it. My only concern is the amount of space they'd take up. Some are kinda small but others have many many posts. The database is already 65+ megabytes.

I guess I"m trying to get a feel as to how attached to them everybody is and whether or not they should be brought over. I don't want the database to be too too big. But I'd like to get feelings from everybody. They'll remain on ezboard either way so they can always be viewed.

Sorry if this causes problems, but I am VERY attached to them... I will fight for their cause until the end.

Ok that's what I wanted to find out. I could use more opinions. Possiblities about them. Like whether or not to bring them all over from ezboard or leave them there.

The database size of the board is my main concern, I don't want to make it too too big. And bringing them over would increase the size of the database considerably.

If there are going to be new posts in them, I'd obviously like to bring them over to this board. If people just want the posts to read and enjoy, we can leave them there and / or start new ones here. Anyway, looking for people's thoughts on this.

This is a new board on a new server, and therefore not the same Tenchiboard. If it creates more problems then it solves, then I think we should remain without the character sections.

I agree with dbd. Although I can't talk much, since I'm still relatively new, I think it's best that if we want the Character Forums back, we should start new ones- after all, it's new posters now, even if they're from the older board- it's "New", in a sense. Since some people are really attatched to them, perhaps they could be moved/copied from Ezboard and taken to another archive or something, so that they can still be viewed by people, and not be wiped out by Ezboard, but they won't take up too much space here?
Just my 2 cents... I have no idea how difficult this would be, so I don't quite know what I'm talking about here, but... yes...

Maybe the absolute fav topics from the char forums should be copied and pasted into a straight text file, and stored elsewhere for prosterity, or however it is spelt. A Hall of fame as it were. What people liked about those old forums is lurking in the less known/visited characters, and generally having partys in topics, without having any relavence to the character of the forum...

Maybe we should make a "Forum Chronticles" for the more memorable of these topics... And then randomly quote them, with a reference. "And did Kori not say "I like babies!"? Tori-Anyone there?-line 34...."
