Ok here's what's been going on.... The board went down again. I've been unable to contact Zeal to help me get it back up again. So, I actually purchased my own webspace. And then with the help of some online friends, I've managed to figure out how to set up the database. I was able to restore posts as best as I could. I had 3 backup files. The most recent 2 I created, 01/15/07 and 12/27/06 woudn't unpack correctly. However the one I made on 11/27/06 did unpack correctly. So yo might notice that the most recent posts were from that backup. I'm sorry I'm going to try to restore the other missing posts. I DO have these backups but they error out. There may be some way to merge them into this database I'm not sure yet. The other thing you might notice is that some of the formatting right now is off. For example the phpbb logo in the upper left corner. That comes with the default code for PHP BB. I'lll be changing that back to the old format as soon as I can. I also have to get the code to get the newsbar back up again and you'll notice that the buttons for bold/italic/etc are now black text on black background so are kinda hard to read. Also some other color issues. And now for the good news!!!! There shoud NOT be any downtime at all from now on. Ever! Period!! No Downtime: The new place where the page and board are installed have gotten stellar reviews from my online friends. Aside from my weekly backups I do, the board backs itself up ever couple hours. That coupled with my new knowledge on how to set it up will ensure that we'll be up all the time. New Version: The board itself has been upgraded to the newest version of PHP BB. This will allow us to add new stuff once I get everything stable. For example sub forums More Webspace: Much more. I basically had between 100 megs and 200 megs until now. The board alone is 90 megabytes. I've always been challenged by space limits. With my new server we have 100 times that space. I currently have 200 gigabytes to work with. I've been re-inspired by this whole ordeal and I'm going to get all the MP3s back up. I'd also like to start having the epsisodes online. I don't have them myself but would be interested in getting them. Assuming somebody knows where I can get them with a reasonably small file size. -- Anyway, so now my challenges are to get the board appearing back how it was and restoring all the stuff on the webpage that I haven't set up yet. I've been focusing on getting the board itself back up. For example I've gotta get the downloads etc back on the webpage. As well as some broken image files. So, I'm going to see what I can do about getting the posts back between 11/27/06 - 01/15/07. I'm really sorry about that. Everything else should be up and running. We're going to have to re-instate the spam busters. But that will be done shortly. Its really late right now and I've got to go to bed. 1:05 am atm. |

Just three things: 1. Quoted text looks horrible, yellow text on white. 2. User bar, is that still available in this version? 3. Alerting everyone via e-mail that the board is back up Just some things I think we should prioritize here in fixing the board. also, I completely forgot we had dls. never worked for me anyway... |

Answers to your questions... 1. Quoted text looks horrible, yellow text on white. I'm kinda muddling my way through how the board works internally to get everything looking as it did before. (Or better). I do want you to keep alerting me to anything which doesn't seem right. Its better to have as many eyese looking at the board as possible. I can't spot everything by myself 2. User bar, is that still available in this version? I liked that too. I'm going to try to get that back in. The whole sidebar was a alteration of the origional php code. I think its actually there we just can't see it until I figure how how to enable the "IM Blocks" as they're called. So once I figure out how to get into that they may return by themselves. 3. Alerting everyone via e-mail that the board is back up I think this is a very good idea. I made a reply on your post above which focuses just on sending a mass e-mail. |
